Bourbon Barrel Fumé Blanc

A Wine Sense exclusive! Fumé Blanc is the name coined for Sauvignon Blanc when oak is added. Using oak from Kentucky Bourbon Barrels, Sauvignon Blanc’s gooseberry, lime and tropical notes are accented with a hint of spice and vanilla. Bourbon Barrel Wines are currently trending with some of the world’s biggest wineries offering Bourbon oaked wines. Using Bourbon oak adds richness, spice and vanilla notes to the respective wines- creating a must-try wine experience. Bourbon oak may be added with traditional wine oak or on its own. Fumé Blanc was originally created by famed California winemaker Robert Mondavi in the 1960's. Sauvignon Blanc did not have a great reputation at the time (although it is now wildly popular and highly respected) and Mondavi wanted to differentiate his Sauvignon Blanc from other nations by coining the name "Fumé Blanc". The Fumé name is based on the smoke like "mist" that forms in the famed vineyards of the Pouilly Fumé wine region in France. Although Mondavi did not make the addition of oak as a mandatory feauture of Fumé Blanc- adding oak is synonymous with the style. Labels included.
