Winexpert Private Reserve

Alias, Valencia, Spain

Alias – AKA Your new favourite wine!

Dark fruit, chocolate and oaky aromas give way to a palate of rich black fruit with soft strawberry. Undertones of tobacco and chocolate add depth and complexity alongside nutty notes and spice. Bold and structured, this full-bodied red offers firm tannins perfectly balanced by medium-high acidity.

Despite a winemaking history spanning over a thousand years, Valencia remains somewhat of a hidden gem. Its varied landscapefrom coastal vineyards to inland elevations over 900m-creates diverse microclimates where altitude and sea breezes temper the warm Mediterranean climate, resulting in character-driven reds with concentrated flavours.

Monastrell & Tempranillo, two iconic indigenous varietals, complement each other well and the blend is becoming increasingly popular with modern Spanish winemakers. Monastrell delivers bold tannin and rich black fruit, while Tempranillo brings red berry notes and lively acidity. Cabernet Sauvignon also grows well here and is a favoured blending partner for adding complexity. These three varietals are key red grapes in the region and together they showcase Valencia’s signature blend of tradition, innovation, and quality.

Alias is ideal with smoked or barbecued meats, wild rice with shiitake mushrooms, chorizo, or Manchego cheese. For dessert, pair with dark chocolate fondue. Labels included.

Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon

The benchmark wine of France’s Bordeaux region and California, Cabernet contends as the greatest red wine of the world and is grown in almost every winemaking region on the planet. Cabernet typically features notes of black fruits, firm tannins and is often oaked. Each growing region typically has its own ‘interpretation’ of this impressive wine.

Varietal Monastrell

Monastrell has two other aliases: Mourvèdre (France) or Mataro (Australia). Known as Monastrell in Spain it is a prominent grape in popular "GSM" blends (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre) from France and Australia. Monastrell wines are known for their good fruit, deep colour and big body and high tannins. In fact, it is the big tannins that earned the grape the French nickname Étrangle-Chien (the dog strangler)! Wines featuring Monastrell will pair well with any red meat dishes.

Varietal Tempranillo

This Spanish favourite offers cherry and red fruit flavours with earthy notes and hints of vanilla notes from oak. The flavours are big but not overpowering. Tempranillo is the dominant grape in Spain's framous Rioja blends.

Region Valencia Spain

Located in the central coast of Spain the Valencia DOC grape growing region was first recognized 70 years ago. Over that time Valencia has become known for around rich, fruit-driven reds made from Monastrell but is also known for Garnacha, Tempranillo and Macabeo.

Sweetness Dry

Dry wines like Cabernet and Pinot Grigio have no perceptible amount of sweetness to the drinker and will often be detected as having a drying character in the mouth.

Body Full

The big wines that can stand on their own. Often premium wines with higher tannins, alcohol levels and oaking levels as they all factor in a bigger tasting wine.

Oak Heavy

Big reds like Cabernet and ultra premium wines will have higher levels of oak as it adds to the complexity and finish that wine drinkers expect.
