Winexpert Private Reserve

Colosso, Italy

Limited Release! Winexpert Private Reserve Colosso!

‘Colosso’ is Italian for colossus, and speaks to the powerful profile of this big Italian red. Savour rich berry flavours, bold sweet spice, and nuanced notes of licorice and dried herb, backed by big, velvety tannin. Winexpert Private Reserve Colosso masterfully blends Italian favourites Sangiovese and Primitivo with a touch of Nerello, one of the country’s hidden gems, giving you a larger-than-life Italian red you’re guaranteed to love.

COLOSSO = BIG
‘Colosso’, Italian for colossus, speaks to the powerful profile of this big Italian red. Heady aromas of cherry, jammy plum and vanilla lead into a bold fruity palate. Rich flavours of cherry, blackberry and plum are accented with sweet baking spice, and layered with softer notes of raspberry, licorice, and dried herb. Big, velvety tannin is balanced with moderate acidity, giving great structure and a plush finish.

FOOD PAIRING
The ripe fruit and full body make this a good partner for rich dishes like ribs, roasted leg of lamb, bacon-wrapped tenderloin, or grilled sausage with fire roasted peppers and caramelized onions. Pairs with hearty veggie dishes like roasted root vegetables or eggplant parmesan. A plate of mature cheeses is always welcome.

Varietal Nerello

Grown on the slopes of an active volcano, Nerello is a wine that knows how to get your attention and keep it. Appealing aromas of cherry, strawberry and rose unfold into juicy red berry and crushed strawberry flavours with hints of cinnamon and herbs. Sleek and savoury with earthy and mineral nuances, fresh acidity and smooth, polished tannins.

Varietal Primitivo

Originating from the same grape as California Zinfandel- Primitivo is Italy's version of this wine featuring lots of dark fruit flavours, lower acidity and medium tannins. It is called Primitivo because it is early ripening and is the first grape harvested. Primitivo thrives in Southern Italy.

Varietal Sangiovese

Sangiovese is the feature grape of Chianti and originates in the Tuscan region of Italy. On its own or featured in Chianti, Sangiovese wines are usually bone-dry with high acidity and medium body and tannin levels. Not surprising- Sangiovese wines are wonderful with pizza and pasta.

Region Italy

Italy is an ‘Old World’ growing region making a variety of styles of wine. Famous for the white Pinot Grigio grape and of course its reds including Amarone, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and others. Of course Italian wines pair very well with Italian foods.

Sweetness Dry

Dry wines like Cabernet and Pinot Grigio have no perceptible amount of sweetness to the drinker and will often be detected as having a drying character in the mouth.

Body Full

The big wines that can stand on their own. Often premium wines with higher tannins, alcohol levels and oaking levels as they all factor in a bigger tasting wine.

Oak Medium

Most red wines will have at least a medium oak level as it is an expected part of the taste of a red wine.
