Winexpert Private Reserve

Infusion, Lodi California

Sold Out Online, Check In-Store!  Winexpert Private Reserve Infusion is a treat! Cab Syrah (Shiraz) blends are common, but the addition of Zinfandel is a California creation. These popular varietals thrive in Lodi, which tends to grow softer, more fruit-forward reds. Cab brings its signature blackcurrant flavours, ample acid and tannin. Zinfandel adds jammy berries, with Syrah contributing plum and pepper. Together they make a bold wine with abundant berry flavours and rich tannin, making it an ideal base for something a little extra.

In a Winexpert first– the juice for this limited release was pre-oaked in-house, steeping for several months with whisky oak chips specially sourced from the Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery and Distillery.

During this 6-month steep, the juice absorbs flavours and tannin from the whisky oak, adding roundness to the body, elevating tannin, and infusing it with nuanced sweet spice, brown sugar and vanilla character. These whisky-influenced sweet notes round out a bold wine rich with flavours of blackcurrant, jammy wildberry and plum, underlaid with mocha, spice, and smoky toasted notes.

This wine will of course match well with red meat dishes and flavourful stews. Pair with with aged cheeses, chicken mole, or bison burgers topped with roasted red pepper and caramelized onions. A great option for beef brisket, spicy sausage, or black bean chili.

Varietal Cabernet Blends

One of the reasons that Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most widely planted grapes in the world is that it is a very versatile grape. Its strong characteristics make perfect for blending as it is easily complimented by other grape varieties. If you like Cabernet Sauvignon, you will enjoy this version of this classic grape!

Varietal Zinfandel

Zinfandel is often lighter coloured like Pinot Noir but has a bold taste like a Cabernet or Merlot. Expect flavours of jam, blueberry, black pepper, cherry, plumcranberry, and licorice often with a spice or smokey finish. "Old Vine" Zinfandels are grown on vines that are 40 years or older creating a more intense wine. White Zinfandels are made with the same red grapes but the quick removal of skins after crushing produces a delightful Rosé.

Region Lodi, California

Grapes have long been a part of the Lodi landscape, where bountiful wild vines used to grow along riverbanks. From the first planted vines in the mid-1800s, the region has flourished into a world-class producer, with most of the land dedicated to red wine grape varieties. Lodi’s grapes benefit from a Mediterranean climate of warm days and cool nights, and a dry growing season which allows growers to precisely manage vine growth through irrigation. Two mountain-fed rivers run through the region bringing rich granite-based minerals to the soil which lend complex flavours to the grapes.

Sweetness Dry

Dry wines like Cabernet and Pinot Grigio have no perceptible amount of sweetness to the drinker and will often be detected as having a drying character in the mouth.

Body Full

The big wines that can stand on their own. Often premium wines with higher tannins, alcohol levels and oaking levels as they all factor in a bigger tasting wine.

Oak Heavy

Big reds like Cabernet and ultra premium wines will have higher levels of oak as it adds to the complexity and finish that wine drinkers expect.
