Winexpert LE 23

Winemaker’s Blend

The varietals in our Winemaker’s Blend play off each other to create a crisp off-dry wine with a tapestry of vibrant fruit flavours. Pinot Grigio leads with lush peach and apple flavours. Riesling adds aromatics, a shot of sweetness, and amplifies fresh acidity. Vermentino plays up the citrus character, while Verduzzo brings tropical notes to the background. A touch of Trebbiano rounds out the orchard fruit flavours and adds a fresh mineral accent.

This cunning blend pulls choice varietals from the four corners of Italy, showcasing the best the country has to offer: Sicily in the southwest, where climate and geography make near perfect growing conditions; Tuscany on the northwest coast, one of the world’s most famous wine regions; Veneto on the northeast coast where hot summers are tempered by the Adriatic Sea, and finally Puglia on the southeast coast, where the surrounding seas provide balance to the dry heat helping grow mature and fruity grapes.

This wine’s signature food pairing is Pancetta Egg Pasta but it’s also a great match for rich & creamy mac n cheese, maple glazed ham or spiced nuts.

Varietal Pinot Grigio

Known as Pinot Gris in France, this cousin of the Chardonnay grape is now more readily known as Pinot Grigio (the Italian version). Pinot Gris typically offers good fruit and medium body while Pinot Grigio wines are lively, zippy and crisp. Both are great with a variety of foods and are a great sipper on a hot summer day. Pinot Grigios and Pinot Gris are currently Canada's favourite white wines.

Varietal Riesling

One of the true great white grapes, Riesling offers great expression of itself and of the environment it grows in. The fruit is highly aromatic, floral and high in flavour with great acidity. Riesling wines will range from sweet to bone-dry. No wine cellar is complete without a good Riesling.

Varietal Trebbiano

Originating in Italy- Trebbiano vines produce full bunches of large late ripening berries. The wines are have good acidity and are fresh and fruity. Trebbiano does not need aging as it drinks very well when young!

Varietal Verduzzo

A light-skinned varietal from Italy, Verduzzo is popular as both sweet and dry wines. When dry it's acidic and citrusy, when the sweet it is richn with honey, tropical fruits and almond notes.

Varietal Vermentino

Although rare in North America, in Italy the Vermentino grape is a white star. Grown from North to South in the country, it ferments into a wine that is expressively refreshing. Think of flavours like white peach, green apple, fresh lime with a quenching acidity that makes your mouth water.

Region Italy

Italy is an ‘Old World’ growing region making a variety of styles of wine. Famous for the white Pinot Grigio grape and of course its reds including Amarone, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and others. Of course Italian wines pair very well with Italian foods.

Sweetness Off-Dry

Off-Dry wines like Gewurztraminer have minimal sweetness which is not perceived by the average wine drinker- while providing an easy drinking characteristic that people enjoy.

Body Light-Medium

Typically lighter in colour and have lighter tannins. May have residual sugar.

Oak None

No oak is present as is the case for most whites, rosés and light, fruity reds.
